Mr. Absalom's Period 2 English class honors National Native American Heritage Month with some Tlingit soap carvings. The class is currently reading "Touching Spirit Bear" a novel which follows troubled teen Cole Matthews, who, after committing a violent crime, is sent to a remote Alaskan island as part of a Native American Circle Justice program, where he confronts his inner demons and learns about healing, forgiveness, and personal responsibility.
